Clarion radio code problem: FIXED

Hello all,
I'm going to post a detailed description, but wanted to advise that I fixed the Clarion radio code problem on my '93 quite easily. This is the dual-DIN setup that has the radio/tape deck in one unit and the equalizer/CD player in the other.
I had a problem shared by many others: the radio usually wouldn't accept the security code and kept flashing "code." Or, every once in a while, it would accept the code, but whenever you turned off the radio, the same problem occurred when you turned it back on.
In my case the problem turned out to be in the main circuit board on the EQUALIZER. It was a bad super-capacitor, the largest capacitor on the board, which is about the size of a Life Saver (without the hole in the middle). It was obviously leaking (in fact, even smelled nasty), which meant it was failing. I replaced it with a $2.25 part ordered from an electronics house (the specs for the capacitor will be on it -- xx mf and xx volts -- and all you need to do is match them). The soldering is relatively easy, too, because it's a large-ish part and there's plenty of space.
This won't necessarily solve your problem, but it did mine. Now if I can figure out why the equalizer won't accept a CD ...
Regards to all.
