Its unlikely that a core will go from seep to gush - but there are other bits to look at.
First step is to peek around. Follow the heater hose from the side of the engine to the false firewall, and follow the return line back - make sure they're still intact.
Then pop off the top of the aquarium cover and look at the hoses - there's usually a plastic barb x barb connection for the heater hoses, then follow those as far as you can towards the heater core.
If those look good, you might need to pull some stuff to get a the heater core itself.
Not surprised you didn't get coolant at your feet - a massive leak will drain into the aquarium.
