over time and that causes the gap to get larger. It's the way they work.

Some plugs use the super unobtainium large dollarum electrodes or don't have a traditional electrode at all (quad fire BBQ plugs or some such thing). Do NOT use other than the NGKs specified. The system does resistance readings using the plugs and make setting adjustments based upon the results it "sees". changing to a non standard plug on *this* system will upset that balance. Do a search on adaptation run, NGK plugs, Platinum plugs, and other similar strings on *this* board on the site. In every case, going back from the latest and greatest to the OEM spec put a smile on the owners face, who was trying to do good and thought that he/she had done so.

A slight miss or hesitation is almost always a sign of either a DI that is going out OR a plug(s) that are gapped too wide. The spec is 1.1 but most (other than the go fast work on your car every weekend crowd) guys gap at .9 knowing full well that the gap will grow with time and they don't want to be under the hood all the time. You should check your plug gap at least once a year. ALSO, a larger than 1.1 mm plug gap has been said to cause a premature failure in the DI, and lastly a larger gap gives a hotter spare and will cause the engine to run hotter (and can fake you out into looking at thermostat, radiator, and all of the usual suspects when it's the plugs!).
