The ECU has no clue. Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Wed, 3 Feb 2010 11:37:29 In Reply to: Re: 1992 9000t fuel system, ben, Wed, 3 Feb 2010 11:19:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I doubt the ECU will notice one way or another. The ECU (actually a Bosch Jetronic version 2.4.1) controls a relay that supplies power to the fuel pump. The ECU has no way to detect an open in the fuel pump wiring, nor will it notice that you have hot-wired the pump to run all time. You, of course, need to know which two wires to pick when you hook it up, but if you can wait until I get home tonight, I can look up the wire color codes and the connector pin-out in the shop manual. If you just guess on the wires, there is a 50-50 chance you will fry the fuel gauge sender winding. There is the off chance that, if the tank was close enough to empty, you could have some real excitement before the fire department gets there.
To summarize, the only thing that would keep you from running a wire directly from the battery to the fuel pump would be good sense.
