On a 97 Aero with 220K- Without any prior warning, the starter would spin but not crank the engine. Installed a used starter advertised as reman with 15K on it and still have same problem. I had the car in gear by accident, and it did lurch forward a bit. So the starter must be at least engaging the flywheel a little. My instincts tell me that both starters are bad.
1) What are the Odds of have having broken teeth on flywheel?
2) I am going to turn the crank shaft bolt and move the flywheel to a different spot. And try it. But I don't think this is the problem.
3) Before i remove the starter, I would like to test the old one. What is the procedure to hook up voltage to the starter on the bench? If no good, I'll remove replacement and test also.
thanks
