My 97 Aero just developed a problem yesterday with the ACC. I could hear a clicking noise behind the dash near the ACC. Pretty rythmic at about once per second. I thought something was amiss with the CD player or other audio but it's not that. I started having temperature control problems in the cabin shortly thereafter. I can hear a "buzzing" sound as the car gets warmed up and the fan speed increases. I ran the self test on the ACC (Auto and vent buttons) and the ACC goes through the motions and shows zero faults. As the temperature rises, the fan speed increases until it is blasting air hot enough to make my hand fell uncomfortably hot. I checked the A/C compressor hard lines and it is definitely working and one line is very cold. I think it is a problem with the mixer door. It sounds like the ACC is telling it to move but it's not moving, hence the continuous rythmic clicking noise. The "buzz" almost sounds like a stripped gear sound when it tries to move. Is the stepper motor mixing door arm attached directly to the motor shaft or does it go through something like a cheap plastic gearset or rack? When I set the ACC to "LO" the fan goes to high speed and the cabin turns into a convection oven. No cooling whatsoever. Also, when I switched from Auto to Econ the temperature got a little hotter so I think the mixing door is not completely shut, just most of the way. It's not the cabin air temp sensor (bullseye). The little fan is happily squeeking away. It figures, it's supposed to hit 85 here today. In April. In New Hampshire.
