Different results, something else to consider, a tip Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: front control arm rear bushings, PeterH, Sun, 11 Apr 2010 03:38:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My front control arm rear bushings slid right off, had to pull down the rear of the arm a bit with a prybar. As I wrote before, be sure to use top quality parts or you will be back in there sooner than you would like to be.
I thought of another thing to check: the front a-arm front bushing caps (see picture). These attach the front of the front control arms to the subframe of the car, are made of cast aluminum and will deteriorate and crack over time, leading to vague steering problems. It's easy to see if they are cracked, inspect them top and bottom, they must be completely intact. Eeuroparts sells them for $6.90 each (see link).
When you get to the tie rod ends, you can keep the alignment fairly close by doing one side at time, taking a test drive and noting if the steering wheel has turned; if so, correct it back to the way it was. Note that even an eighth of a turn on the tie rod ends will produce a change in the alignment. If you have any doubts, take it in for a professional alignment.
