Most All 'modern' valves are stelite coated/faced.
On the other hand, the silly Rascal had no actual need to Grind the valves. Few engines.. these days.. actually need a grind, due to the durability of the materials.
A simple lapping is usually All that is required.
Hopefully the Twit didn't screw it all up by applying backbone rather than brain to the procedure. Take a look to see if the newly ground valves are now deeper in the cyl head as result of the metal ground off.
IMO it's Highly Unlikely yer gonna get him to pay for fresh valves (and Seats !?) though.
