How to remove coolant expansion tank? Posted by sam96CS [Email] (#852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from sam96CS) on Sat, 22 May 2010 09:30:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Original expansion tank on a '96 CS automatic. I'm replacing the radiator, thermostat, other cooling system bits and want to do the shake-shake-shake thing with coffee grounds to clean the expansion tank.
I've disconnected upper and lower expansion tank hoses and the low coolant sensor's electrical connector.
It looks like the tank is designed to slide out towards the engine. No problem at the back side of the tank. At the front side there's a plastic latch with a tab that should release the latch when you pull up on it. But the front of the tank won't move while pulling up hard on the tab.
Does anything else hold the tank on a '96? How much force can I use? Should I pry between the tank and inner fender while pulling up on tab?
