Just got my 95 CS to FPT. Incredible, even at stage 1. I decided to put a turbo gauge in the dash. I chose to put it in place of the headlight switch for two reasons. First, I like the analog clock and didn't want to destroy that, and second, its position is right next to the tach so I can keep an eye on both at once.

I got the VDO-150121 mentioned here and cut out the headlight switch mount tabs to open up the hole for the new gauge. I scoured this site and others for a definitive answer on which wires to splice in the headlamp plug to get power to illuminate my new gauge. Could swear I've seen a posting like that, but couldn't find it.

Well, I started looking at the headlight switch and realized why it's round. The blades around the outside of the barrel are the pin positions for different headlight settings. You can see this working if you get a bright light and look through the clear green plastic of the casing.

The two blades in the center are for the switch illumination itself. I verified this by touching a 9-volt battery to them and the bulb inside lit up.

I was about to cut the wires in the harness that go to the plugs for those center blades when I realized there is another way. I used 20 gauge stranded copper wire and crimped plugs on one end and plugged them onto the boost gauge bulb. The other ends I left about 1/4 inch stripped and simply inserted those ends into the two center plugs on the harness. I then plugged the headlight switch into the socket as normal. The blades from the switch hold those stranded wire ends tightly.

This attachment method works perfectly. The gauge dims and brightens with the rheostat on the dash, just like all of the other lights. The added benefit is that the harness remains uncut - fewer points of potential failure.

I imagine this method could be used with any illuminated switch on the dashboard. Hope this helps some of my fellow boost gauge installers!
