Shift Linkage Alignment Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Tue, 20 Jul 2010 11:27:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey all.
I have a '95 Aero 5spd with a shift issue. I just bought the car so I'm not sure where the problem was caused.
The transmission was recently replaced with a newer unit from Andrews SAAB. I was told it was installed fine. But then the car went to a crappy repair shop to replace a cracked oil pan. In replacing the pan they disassembled the shift linkage inside the engine compartment, nearest the firewall. The lost the proper bolts to reassemble it and it now has what looks like a 4" bolt holding the clamp-connection together.
There are 3 issues:
1: When upshifting into third gear, even very gingerly, the gears grind slightly. When downshifting from fourth to third, it grinds the gears about half the time.
2: Fifth gear is also very vague. There is nothing limiting the travel of the shifter to the far right when looking for fifth. To find fifth you have have to patiently search around where third gear feels like it aught to be. That being said, the whole shifter appears to be leaning a bit far left.
3: Reverse works but the reverse lockout isn't functioning. Lifting the reverse lockout with your fingers seems to have no affect on getting into reverse.
Can I get in there and make the adjustments necessary myself? I'm fairly capable, having removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled many engines (older 900 and 9000's) and transmissions myself in the past.
Thanks.
