95 instrument light & park lights intermittent on/off

My instrument panel light and back park lights out indicator and the back park lights started going off intermittently when i'd go over a bump or play music. i took it in and rob at scanwest said he tightened my battery cable and that i may need a new cable but that appeared to fix it.
the next night it wasn't working again, i got out and fiddled with the cables (kinda moved them both around a bit) and it appeared to come back on.
now 3rd day, it's not working at all. He never told me which cable was the culprit, but wants $200 to replace the positive one.
I just spent $2500 fixing this car 2 months ago and i'm just completely done forking out money.
Has anyone heard of this problem and know how my uncle can fix it. I'm unable to drive at night because my rear lights don't work (the brake lights do, but dash light and rear park lights don't and I DON'T want to get pulled over)
Everything else in my instrument panel work fine, and my fuse is fine (unless there's another fuse i'm not aware of)
I read somewhere that it does this when I need to change my rear park lights. I could try that, but I'm just extremely frustrated and I DON'T want to pay $200 for a stupid cable.
I'd appreciate the help. I'm not a mechanic, so keep it simple. Thanks so much. Niki
