If you take the headliner material off, what you will find is that the foam between the cloth material and the roof has started to disintegrate and turn into powder. That means any adhesive that you spray into a gap or hole has nothing to stick to. Picture trying to glue a beach blanket to the sand on a beach, and I think you get the idea.
That said, if you want hold the cloth to the roof while you are waiting for the headliner and glue kit to come in the mail, get some corkscrew upholstery pins and temporarily tack the droopy part back to the hardboard backing on the roof. It will be temporary because the pins work themselves out and you, or worse yet, your wife, ends up sitting on them. As the saying goes, "ask me how I know this."
You can replace the headliner yourself. It takes about 2 hours of work, plus some dead time in between to let the glue dry. You should be able to find instructions on the bulletin board or elsewhere.
