I just replaced the inner drivers on my 96cse (216k) with lower mileage(150k) ones from a 94. It made a big difference. I did the driver's side first which helped somewhat, but the worst was the right side. I used to believe you could tell by loading up one side by accelerating in a hard turn. It wasn't that clear in this case. The real evidence is running your finger across the areas in the driver where the tripod bearing rides. The depressions are slight but noticeable when the driver is shot. Of course it's a messy job to check.
