From Anders: "What stopped you from rotating the engine to TDC, rotate the cams to TDC and hook the chain up properly?????"
It didn't occur to me at the time, but that is exactly what I should have done when the head was off. In fact, it is still be best thing to do even now, but the car has to be moved by this Saturday, and I can only get to it sporadically, and its over an hour away. After the car is moved (under its own power but not perfectly ignition timed) I'll do it properly at my leisure. Tensioner off, sprockets off, camshafts off. Helper holds chain up and tight, I bump the starter through the under hood connector or push the flywheel teeth with with a screwdriver until the zero on the flywheel is in the right place. Then reassemble. Thanks Anders
Peter
