Went thru something similar several years ago on a 95 CS. Make sure you get a copy of the police report - and make sure its clear that you're not at fault.
You'll move things along with the other party's insurance if you get a rental.
Rules on valuation vary from state to state. WI uses standard values from KBB and the like - Minnesota they get to use the 'market value'.
Allstate used such a firm - the nice young man on the phone did a 'local market search' and low-balled me. I asked him to show me a similar car within 300 miles (I'd googled up only 1 - 300 miles away in chicago on a shady used car lot). Eventually he came back with the same car - which was higher miles, worse shape, and well below KBB retail, so there was probably something wrong. Eventually I got a supervisor on the line, and they agreed to check with the 'local' Saab dealers (Princeton is where they ended up, I think), and I got a more reasonable offer, but still not KBB retail.
Whatever they do - make them prove their number.
