I've replaced input shaft bearings (first ones to go usually) because of a Hiss noise and play in the input shaft. (IF those the hiss goes away/lessens with clutch depressed) I've replaced the Big Dif bearings, because they too are a known failure point. IF it's a roller type bearing that fails it's serious as the hardened surfaces of the rollers flakes off (there's a name for this, but I forget it :-) and become distributed throughout the trans. No need to describe what effect lots of sharp bits of Hi grade hardened steel floating about has on the innards. Continued use is the enemy in this case. Suggests a rebuild.. today, or a wrecker transplant.
