puzzling oil leak on a B202 belt tensioner Posted by Kevin M [Email] (#1193) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin M) on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 11:48:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Looking for an additional leak on the passenger side of the engine. Had a significant amount of oil on the subframe under the crankshaft pulley. Ah-ha, leaking oil pump seal or OP o-ring. Simple fix, right? Pulled the pulley and the seal is dry. Not one speck of oil behind the pulley. The pump gasket likewise indicated no sign of leaking.
The leak appears to be coming from one of the bolts (lower rear, I think ) that secures the belt tensioner to the engine block. A couple of weeks ago I had the tensioner off when replacing oil cooler o-rings and I noticed that one of the bolts was wet with oil and a small amount of oil wept from the hole while the bracket was removed.
Does anyone remember if one of the bolts is drilled into an oil journal? In which case some sealant must be placed on the bolt before replacing. But I can't remember if this is actually the case or I have a unique situation where the bolt drift was drilled too deep and intercepted a journal.
