Interesting Idea...
But IMO I'd buy a Proven Decent pad from the outset, rather than do the M3 'grind the pad to fit trick' on pads of indeterminate pedigree. Do you have a mfg's name for those?
IMO Any part with a lifetime warranty (like a Midas muffler) is of decidedly suspect quality from the outset.
Ain't NO free lunches being handed out.
Just bought a full set of ATE rotors (made in Germany) for less than $100 from Rockauto.com. Also got a 4 wheel set of PBR metal masters for $48.. for my 97, but all 9000's share these same bits.
ATE rotors are a first for me, however seeing as it's an ATE brake system, I figured it's not a huge risk :-)
Been using Brembo rotors and Metalmasters on a succession of cars since 1980. These impress me enough so that I keep buying them... dozens of times so far:-) Although the Ultimate ceramics give equally good Bite.. but dust like crazy.
Be careful in what you ultimately buy, brakes are kinda 'important'
