Slipped up in my earlier message, yeah, Bill, it looks like the kind of oil cans used, say, by a guy in an old time mill, leaning in over a spinning machine to pour some oil on a bearing. A low can and handle with a long spout diagonally out to the side.
As graphics go it hardly even says "oil" to most people. Seems it would be smarter to put the word on it, even if was "oel" or whatever Swedes say.
In our case its lack led to a costly problem. I was letting the car be driven even tho it had a bad oil leak, turned out to be oil pump cover o-ring cracked thru. Had I known it had no warning light I certainly would have fixed one or both problems before letting anyone, myself included, drive it.
Anyway, either my Mom or my brother, driving it, had a low-oil crisis I only found out about when I heard the engine knocking.
Turned out to be the flywheel-end-most piston's skirt had "caught on" and got chafed, against the cylinder bore. Even with full oil in, piston would continue to "grab" and car would slow down and shudder, and had no power.
I ended up pulling the motor and fixing it with a new piston bought for me thru the local dealer by a friendly indy, at less than 2/3 what the dealer quoted me.
Other pistons looked and were fine. Bore was fine. All rod bearings looked fine tho I replaced them.
LOTS of work but I did it because I felt an obligation, having put so much into the car before that.
It has run fine since. It gave me the opportunity to clean up massively on the motor and around it, and paint up some of the block, and the valve cover, so it's a lot more pleasing and of course runs better therefore too.
Worst part of it maybe was pulling the oil pan, those Torx head bolts needed a brand-new Snap-On bit, even then ground a little shorter to fit snugger in the bolt, and some I had to grab with the biggest Vise Grips in the end. Replaced them all with new hex-head bolts.
All the tips and tricks needed I learned on this site, bless it and all who have made it.
