Re: 9k Suspension Building; Kits, Intermodel Parts, etc. Posted by sam96CS [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 9k Suspension Building; Kits, Intermodel Parts, etc., RAVC1 ![]() |
There is no packaged equivalent to the Aero suspension. If your CSE is a '98, then it already has an Aero suspension. Otherwise it has a CSE suspension.
Check the thickness of your sway bars. If they're 19 MM, then they're the same as stock Aero sway bars. If the bar will slip into a 3/4" or 19 MM wrench and won't fit into a 11/16" wrench, then it is a 19 MM bar.
Read everything you can on this board (use the search window). There is no downside to Aero rims and SAS sway bars other than the cost and hassle of installing the SAS bars. However, there are many tradeoffs and points of view. Poly bushings are very nice, but could be too jarring for your taste if combined with Bilstein HD struts and shocks. Saab had an unbelievable range of spring combinations. Automatics came with stiffer springs to handle the extra weight. Don't assume that lowering springs will be stiffer; stiffness is a function of the spring rate. The quality of your stock Saab springs is excellent, and their linear design is more predictable under all driving conditions than progressive springs.
When you're ready to spend, do only 1 thing at a time! The reason is that if you do several things at once, then you won't know which part to praise or blame for the outcome. Start cheap. You won't believe the difference you'll get just from poly rear sway bar bushings and poly bushings at the rear of the control arms, especially if your rubber bits are worn. If you decide to upgrade struts, then it makes sense to replace the strut bearings at the same time.
Don't neglect normal wear items like ball joints and tie rod ends will make a difference if yours are worn. Don't forget improvements you can get for free, like checking the tightness of the bolts on your rear suspension.
