Well, what you describe fits oil pressure sender.

Single skinny wire, 1/4" spade lug, under intake manifold on block.
If what you are describing LOOKS like an oil pressure sender - - hex body (pretty big, can't remember size), a little plastic cylinder sticking up above that and a 1/4" spade lug sticking out of it - - and it's in the right place, I don't know what else it could be.
Maybe, on removing your intake manifold, things moved suddenly and the wire got pulled off the sender and the push-on got torn off its end?
Anyway, if you have an orphan sender, of whatever flavor, and an orphan wire that ends right near it, I'd put a terminal on the wire and attach it.
On my '96, when I pulled the head off, the wire to the sender was so heat-embrittled and the push-on was so corroded I added a length of new flexible wire and a new terminal at reinstall time.
Only other wiring I can remember down under there was the two oxygen sensor plugs, mounted on a sheet metal bracket that came off the upper rear motor mount bolts. And they're multi-wire plugs.
Or the wiring to the alternator.
