Or stop playing the warranty game Posted by sam96CS [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: 34R AGM battery at a good price, BobS, Mon, 28 Mar 2011 14:47:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm lucky because the previous owner bought my car at 12,500 miles and kept most receipts.
The original battery was replaced under warranty by the dealer in Jan. '99 when it was 3-1/2 year old.
The second battery was replaced by an indy in Aug. '01. The indy installed a MT-34R Megatron battery by Interstate Batteries.
The third battery was another MT-34R with a factory date of 3/12/04. This battery was in the car when I bought it. No paperwork for it, but it probably was a warranty replacement.
The third battery died in Dec. '07. I took it to retailer for Interstate Batteries and got a "prorated" price of $82.96 under warranty on a new MT-34R. This was the car's 4th and last Megatron.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but after a while it become clear that you're paying too much for too little. Then it's time to change the game. Which I did by changing brands, changing retailers and changing battery type from wet cell to AGM. Maybe I'll get good service from the new battery, and maybe not. But there is no doubt that if I had bought a 5th Megatron, then I would be replacing it in 36-40 months.
