Got it (one side at least) Posted by JerseySaab [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: How to remove parking brake cable from caliper?, Simon S, Fri, 6 May 2011 07:33:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a clip that I wasn't seeing before getting more medieval on it.
This thing was stuck really tight, had to use a few different 'persuaders' to get it loose. The tough part is that the end is plastic so you really can't use a lot of force on it, and certainly can't use heat.
After removing the boot I put a small line wrench on top of the plastic end that projects out and a 10mm deep socket on top of that, and tapped until it moved a bit. Then I applied some silicone lube and used a combination of gentle prying from the other side, tapping on the deep socket, and tapping around the circumference of the plastic end using a drift. Finally the cable got loose enough that I was able to (carefully!) twist it with a pliers and get it out.
