I agree not much help even if accurate, but I'd rather it was flashing something like real numbers instead of optimistic BS.
On the real-time mpg setting, even if wildly wrong, there's some benefit from seeing when the car gets its best mileage, off-throttle downgrades and coasting to a stop, and when its worst, hard-pedal-down moments, and the wide variation between. But then we all knew that anyways.
And the not very meaningful cranking voltage-battery voltage display. On a car with a near-dead probly 8 year old no-name battery, I was getting about the same numbers as I see with a brand new Diehard Gold oversize.
When the car doesn't turn over, the battery is dead, is about all you need to know.
At least the outside temperature is pretty accurate, and good to know sometimes, though I have a pretty good sense of what the temperature is from just feeling the air if I want.
