Headlight wiring question

One of the things I've always liked about Saabs is that when you turn off the ignition the headlights go off, too.
But not if the light switch is in the middle position so the parking lights, fogs and front running lights are on.
Being forgetful, I have run my battery flat on a few occasions when I have just those lights on and turn off the car.
How does one switch the wiring so those lights will also go off when the car is off? I don't see a huge downside to doing this.
