From the Haynes Manual
Front springs length:
455 mm free length (about 17-7/8")
Front springs rod diameters:
12.86 mm Brown/violet color code
12.97 mm Orange/pink
13.09 mm Back/white
Rear springs length:
321 mm free length (about 12-5/8")
12.86 mm Brown/blue color code
12.97 mm Black/white
I know this is vague information, and the manual gives no clues about which years/models/etc. had which springs. It is striking how similar the springs are in rod diameter, and it doesn't take much difference to have an impact. 25 mm thick SAS sway bars are about 3 times as stiff as the 19 mm sway bars on a '96 CSE. The formula for spring stiffness raises the thickness of the rod to the 3rd power. You can find it online.
By the way, I have the same front springs on my '96 CS automatic, but the rears are yellow, yellow, white, yellow, yellow.
I don't know whether you were hosed. Joe98 and Street know springs well, hopefully one of them will reply.
