I have also been wondering if this was really possible, but this winter I had to drive from Chicago to Eau Claire, Wisconsin - about 320 miles. Drove up the night before a meeting, so I was not in a rush and kept it at about 65 - 70 MPH the entire way, used cruise control, filled up and calculated 29.5 MPG. Same thing on the way back, got 30.5 MPG. The increased mileage may have been due to less ethanol in Wisconsin gas, or a tailwind, or .....
This is the only time I have ever gotten above 30 MPG and it had a lot to do with not using a lot of boost on cruise control.
