I really think this is the answer. Accusump is great, but costly and just more stuff to go wrong and take up space (although the extra oil capacity would be a bonus). But I really think a baffle in the pan, with a fence/cup around the pickup would be adequate to fix this problem. A "ceiling" will help prevent too much oil from sloshing away from the pickup, and the fence/cup will trap a small amount directly around the pickup. This is a simple solution that is mostly free. Welding a lightly perforated piece of sheetmetal into the pan below the crank level shouldn't be a big deal.
