a/c pressure readings Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Mon, 3 Oct 2011 07:18:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finally received my manifold gauge set. Here are the readings I'm getting:
with compressor running, low side starts at 30psi, slowly drops to 0, at which point the compressor stops; high steady at about 80psi
with compressor off, low side pressure slowly increases back up to 30psi, while high side reads steady about 70psi
cycle then repeats
Any ideas? If it was just low on refrigerant, I wouldn't expect the gradual low side pressure rise and fall, but maybe I'm wrong. I previously had the low side pressure up to 45psi and holding, and still had no cooling effect (this was before I got the gauge set and had just put in two cans of Duracool - so it seems like there is a slow leak, but it's not the main problem). It seems very wrong that the high side pressure barely changes between the compressor running and not. If it makes any difference, the ambient temperature is about 10C/50F.
So far I've replaced the expansion valve and the low pressure switch. I guess my next step is to buy some more refrigerant and see what the readings do with more in there.
