you can read realtime data from the OBD2 port with any scanner(beyond the ability of code readers) I have an Actron(SPX) scanner that allows me to drive the car and record the MAP data, ignition timing, and shows the ECU adjusting the fuel injection. (1996 and later cars)
His 1991 9000 is using a Bosch Air Mass Meter, so the data from the air-flow sensor is being used to read the charge level before the mixture reaches the cylinders. One could verify that the AMM is tracking the change in charge level correctly. I think the ECU is responding with less than calibrated control signals to the DI and injectors because of the 'ceiling' at 2500 rpm.
