To my untrained eye, the cylinders are just overly smooth. Boring them should take care of it. No damage to the pistons- there was probably so much carbon build up that it acted as a protective layer!
The machine shop is great, teaching me things even as they work with my budget. I will have them inspect the block before we put the crank in. They will help me with the plastigage step too. I will let them decide if it needs to be boiled clean, but after the degreaser soak and the pressure washer to each oil port, I am betting they give it a clean bill of health.
I sprayed carb cleaner in each port and it came back clear.
