A few days ago I came out from work and noticed a loud rattling when I revved the engine. I've been thinking that that I had a loosening exhaust manifold as it has seemed as though my engine noise was louder than usual recently. I just did the head gasket earlier this year - there are only a couple thousand miles on it. As I got on the freeway the rattling got louder and then the engine quit. It would restart, though not easily and the idle was very rough, and I didn't trust it to drive it.
I thought I must have thrown a rod, but all pistons are moving. I've got low compression in the middle 2 cylinders. When I pulled the head to do the gasket I had it tested and new valve seals installed. Could a bad head job have contributed to valve failure?
Suggestions?
