I have a spare radiator sitting around for when it gets bad enough that I'm forced to change it.

My car has a hairline crack right near where the top radiator hose attaches. I've tried a little JB weld to seal it up, but wasn't able to get it into the crack very well, so it still leaks - but not much, about a quart of antifreeze every 6 months or so.

It's been that way for over 3 years now. I have noticed, now that the weather's turning cold, the problem is accelerating a bit, so maybe it's time to put that new radiator in.

The Saab radiators seem to be a little better built than some. I went to the junk yard to find a replacement rad for my mother-in-law's Saturn SL2. Every single one of the 2 dozen cars I looked at were either split in the same spot on the plastic radiator side tank, or looked like they were about to blow (there was clearly visible deformation).

Looking around at other makes, it wasn't uncommon to find signs of stress and fatigue in the plastic end tanks. Just a common symptom of the drive to reduce manufacturing costs at the expense of durability.
