Just a rant. It might make me feel better.
Mom's 98 CSE has been having a rough quarter. A few months ago, while I was driving the car to investigate a pesky CEL (ISAT scan says Cam Sensor Fault -- I'm thinking DI cassette might be to blame), the upper radiator hose nipple cracked off the radiator. Took train home. Fixed car in office parking lot (replaced radiator).
(Oh by the way, a couple weeks later, exactly the same failure in my Dad's 92 9000s. Replaced that radiator in the comfort of home.)
Yesterday, driving Mom's car again to investigate same CEL which I haven't had time to fix, and the serpentine belt jumps a couple of ribs and partially shreds itself. Took train home.
This morning, got the belt off in the parking lot, and found one pulley had broken pieces on its edge. Presumably this is the cause of the belt failure. All the bearing seem healthy, tensioner not very shocky but hard to say if that was a cause or not. Maybe related if the bouncy belt gave a brittle old pulley an excessive beating. Anyway, new belt and pulleys should arrive today (thanks eEuro!).
Now for the comedy. While under there, I noticed the block o-rings for the water pump are dripping. Sigh. This wasn't the case before the radiator replacement. I must have manhandled things when wrestling the lower radiator hose free from the radiator or something.
I replaced that water pump a few years ago and I know that drip wasn't there a few months ago. If I only knew any Swedish curse words I'd be using them now. I don't want to do that water pump again!
Fudge. Ship.
