Some of you might remember my post about a new Scantech wheel bearing not fitting my '87 9kT, and new bearings being unavailable or costing $250 for pre-ABS cars.

I ended up disassembling my old wheel bearing and re-greasing it. It came apart easily and was easy to clean and service. Just make note of how it comes apart. The old grease was almost completely dried out. All the ball bearing were fine, though one set looked a little burned. One of the races was definitely a little damaged so I wasn't sure what to expect, but upon re-assembly and a test drive in was totally quiet (from being very load).

I'll plan at some point on getting a used bearing (not that '86 and '87 cars are being parted out left and right now either) and re-greasing it so I don't have to worry about it anymore, but did want to let others know that these bearing are serviceable if you catch them early enough.
