Be sure he has the title first. He may not have bothered transferring it over given the value of the car.
If nothing major was wrong with the car when it was parked (a pretty big if) it shouldn't be bad to bring it back to life. Definitely consider it a little bit of a project though. Get a new battery, change the oil, and siphon as much of the gas as you can out of it. Then add 5 fresh gallons and a bottle of stabil, crank it with the fuel pump fuse removed to build some oil pressure, then fire it up. Don't be surprised if it runs very poorly or takes a lot of cranking as it goes through any old gas. Let it thoroughly warm up and check for leaks. Change the coolant and absolutely bleed the brakes before trying to drive it. You may have sticky calipers, excessively rusted rotors, but you won't know until you drive it.
