Not looking for help, just thought I would submit a short posting about installing a new aftermarket radio in my Aero. When my wife asked me for Christmas ideas, I told her I needed a new bluetooth capable/ipod ready radio for the Aero as my old one had quit working more than a year ago. She thought it was crazy to put a new radio in my 14 year old car with 383K miles, but on Christmas morning, there was a new DUAL XDMA6540 CD receiver under the tree (I had picked that out on Crutchfield's site for her). This receiver offers multiple color schemes for illumination so matching the green dash lights should be fairly easy.
The Aero is my daily driver and unless the snow gets deep, I drive it to save gas and miles on my 2010 F150 4WD Lariat.
Crutchfield had sent along the wiring harness which made hooking up power relatively easy, although the instructions said constant 12V was a yellow wire, when actually it was red, just like the switched 12V. The two wires were switched on the saab connector, but luckily I verified each wire with my fluke meter before making the final connections.
I wanted to keep the factory amp vice messing with new wires. At first I thought about using a PAC-OEM2 or PAC-SOEM4, but the reviews on Crutchfield were not very positive. A few searches in this forum revealed Tarheels posting (linked below if I did it correctly) on how to splice RCA connectors onto the saab factory wires from the receiver to the HK amp. I also realized that the pins on the pink connector at the saab receiver would fit the other side of the Crutchfield harness with a simple modification. The saab connector has 10 pins, where as the Crutchfield only has 8. The extra row contains the pin for the yellow trigger wire for the HK amp which I also wired in the power antenna trigger wire. By opening one end of the Crutchfield connector with a razor, the pink saab connector mated perfectly and I was able to use those extra wires for my RCA jacks.
I ran the bluetooth microphone across the dash and up the driver's pillar to visor.
Sound through the factory HK amp and speakers is great. The bluetooth connected easily to my DROID X phone. Haven't gotten around to trying the IPOD or bluetooth media streaming yet.
Here is the link to Tarheel's write-up which I would have been lost without:
