Could be the switch, perhaps a stuck main relay?
I had an issue with an incorrect brake light bulb where with the brake depressed, the hot-in-run circuit stayed on, but that doesn't sound like what you're seeing.
Disconnecting the DI will certainly stop the car - but I'm guessing everything else driven by the hot-in-run circuits are still on, and you'll run the battery down quickly.
