Some have reported failures, but it shouldn't be prone to anything going wrong. Unless the wiring to it has been mistreated badly and broken inside its insulation.
If you have bought a spare, just keep it on hand. Don't worry about trouble from the original; if it should fail, then you're all set with the part to fix it.
I did have a motor out, and pulled the CPS out of its hole in the block, but don't remember disconnecting it higher up. One screw at block, and an oring around its barrel to seal it, and then at top corner of block a little strap with another bolt to hold the wire in place, then????.
If it has one of those red locking multiplugs on it, good luck holding things firmly enough to unlatch it, down in behind the engine and under the intake manifold. Good enough reason alone to just leave original in place.
