thank you that is good advice. I will check out the original cap. I've owned the car a little over a year. Chased coolant leaks a lot at first and lately have had none until this little blip.
Headgasket is a variable, I don't have the repair history. I did test the compression a while back and will need to dig up the numbers. They did range from around 175-190 iirc.
some time after that I did a retorque hoping it would stop the weeping. one head bolt was a smidge loose.
and there is confirmed leakage at the o-ring block prior to barrs leaks. but I then threw the stupid flashy yellow fanct reservoir cap into the mix! darnit!
I wanted to switch to the mercedes coolant and lower temp T-stat, but the water pipe rusted and broke first time I did the t-stat (orig was stuck). It broke where it runs along the serpentine belt off the water pump (rusty new england car). To my shame, I've not replaced that pipe, I patched it with correct sized rubber coolant line and hose gaskets. I do inpect it regularly for leaks and the condition of the rubber/clamps and hose integrity. It was the best I could do at the time and it still holds. I'm not ready for that repair job, I think it means taking the alternator out, at least.
