My wife called me from downtown Boston the other day. She was driving her mother to a doctor's appointment in the 97 CSE when the heater core blew while she was driving down the street. Steam pouring out of the vents, completely fogging up the windows. Fortunately it happened at low speed and not when she was on the highway. She parked it and I had it towed home. I couldn't remember if I had the heater core done on that 9000 or not. It turns out I just recently did the Aero, not the CSE. I ordered up a new core kit, blower motor, expansion valve, A/C receiver/dryer and a pile of O-rings for the A/C system. I figured If I had to dig into the HVAC system I might as well get the A/C working better since she's been complaining about that for a while. She said she didn't notice the heater core leaking (low coolant light, sweet smell, windshield fogging) before the catastrophic failure. I did a blower motor in my 90 9000 and it was a PITA. My understanding is that it's easier in the later models. How much easier? I have an indy who doesn't mind me suppling parts for repairs so I may just have him do it. That way I can sit at home and drink a beer and save the band aids for the next project. BTW, Eeuro has a clearance sale on the heater core kit: plastic/alum Magnetti Marelli core, hoses, etc for $130.
