GM reduced; the Crank, rods, pistons, oil pump and it's setup. Also the valves as well, I believe (?) Messed up crank venting was a side effect of the pump 'degrade'.
Saab 'Geers were a lot of things. But they were also conservative stubborn types who designed with integrity and strength as worthwhile attributes. Cost cutting clearly wasn't in their lexicon.
Also note the 'improved' HP numbers for 9-5's.. result of a less rigorous conservative rating and testing regime imo.
Certainly the 9-5'sI've driven were unimpressive, few running Aeros need fear Any 9-5 :-)
Paradoxically the 9-5's were finally fitted with genuinely decent Autoboxes.
All water under the bridge Now.. though.
Clearly, buyers worldwide avoided post 9000 sales floors in droves.
Just surprising, the lingering regard of 9-5's as the high water mark for Saab. Possibly just a rationalisation of ownership?
