Hi,

In case anyone is searching for seat info, I thought that I would share my experiences. Much of my information came from other posters. Thank you.

The knob which controls the lumbar adjustment broke off at the shaft inside the seat and lost all adjustment. Since this broke not only did I lose the adjustment, but even the minimal setting gave a base level of low back support. The seat was very uncomfortable.

I popped the 4 hog rings on the lower seat back and was able to roll up the bottom 3 inches of fabric. The lumbar is adjusted by applying tension to a 2 inch wide canvas strap. Lacking the spare parts to regain full adjustment, I proceeded to permanently affix the strap to give a moderate level of support. I disengaged the remaining components of the adjustment and used a heavy duty wire tire to attach the strap to the left hand side of the seat. I then turned the seat over and sat in it. It was a lot better, but still needed more support. I then cut a 8 inch by 1 inch thick piece of closed cell foam and inserted it between the strap and the seat front. Again, test sat, and my wife (physical therapist) told me it was too thick and too low. I raised the mechanism 1 inch and shaved 1/4 inch off of the foam. I put the seat back together. Seemed good.

While I had the seat out, I did an experiment and bypassed all the springs in the seat bottom with wire ties. This was an attempt to see if the bottom was indeed sagging. Another poster Tapani?, mentioned that he shortened all the springs by 5mm to give his seat a boost. I did not want to commit to that yet. The wire tie method was removable and allowed me to test it.

Seat back in car. Lumbar is just about right. It may need to go up a hair more, but is a HUGE improvement. The seat bottom is mystifying me. It is now almost too firm, but I need to give it some time. Maybe I tightened the wire-ties too much. If I do shorten the springs it will still allow some movement which the wire-ties do not. Maybe it also needs some additional foam. At any time I can cut the wire-ties even if the seat is in the car to go back to "default" settings. Does anyone have experience with the seat bottom?

Thanks,

Mike
