The first time it happened to me I was able to clear by pulling the center console switch unit up, and spraying contact cleaner into the side openings in the plastic shroud. The pushing each button 20-30 times to get contacts working well. ( Radio shack...or lowe's or home depot, but dont buy the greaser, only contact and switch cleaner,,,,,the one I have in the garage is Ideal, probably from one of the big box stores I mentioned. Works great on noisy guitar pots too.....) That lasted a couple of years. Next time I had to take apart the unit (careful, about 8 little springs in there....)and clean each contact thoroughly and then re-assemble.
The switch unit is secured by by plastic compression nibs, front and rear, as I recall.
