There are two pieces of ply connected by a piano hinge. The rear piece is what swings up to access the spare, the front piece is anchored by a formed metal piece that rus between the wheelwells just behind the rear seat. It's held in by 4(?) torx screws. After removing this piece the entire plywood assembly can slide to the rear and out. The pump itself is under another smalll sheet metal plate. As dref suggested you might check the electrical connections first. 88s also have a prepump which if bad won't get gas to the main pump if there's less than a quarter tank.
