The central locking in my 96 hasn't worked for a while, and since I don't lock that often, I wasn't too concerned, but lately I couldn't lock the driver's door.
I opened up the panel sprayed a lot of WD40 and took off some burrs and spall. Just for the heck of it I reflowed the solder in the module. Now everything works. Took about an hour or so.
