Well, pump is out, and disassembled.
Really not a bad job.
I noticed thick black CRUD in bottom of the fuel pump reservoir assembly.
Might I assume that I can use brake cleaner solution to get rid of this?
Anyone know how to determine how far in/down I press in the Bosch fuel pump when I re-assemble this unit?
Also, mixed news from Eeuroparts.
They expedited my order, but only after I had to call 'em up and complain that they were holding it up for a smaller piece (the pre-pump). Good part of that is I knew the order was held up as they were smart enough to send an E-mail update on the order. Then they did source a different piece for me from an alternative manufacturer after my call, and that was good.
Unfortunately, they sent a fuel filter that doesn't fit :/
It is the filter that attaches to the pre-pump.
The filter they sent does not allow use of the plastic factory mounting bracket that is required for re-assembly of the pre-pump to the reservoir container. Annoying, but it seems that I must re-use both my 25 year old filters and this 25 year old plastic bracket.
The sent the pre-pump with a very large "O" ring. I am wondering if they meant for me to use that "O" ring to hold the replacement pre-pump in place rather than re-use the bracket. If that is the case, that seems like a really really really bad idea, as it will all just shake apart with time.
The positive thing is that Eeuroparts seems receptive to criticism and sound like they want to improve things. I score them at a solid C+/B-.
Re-assembly is in the morning, after the unit is cleaned. I would otherwise have had the car up and running.
If this fixes things, my next purchase is an A/C pump, so I can purge and charge the system and begin to use it.
Then I will place my Durango on E-bay for sale, and I will drive the Saab 9000 and my SiS for a while, while I get my Diesel BJ-44 Landcruiser back on the road, (and while I convert an FJ-55 Toyota "Iron Pig" to a Diesel/BJ-55.)
Thanks for everyones input.
Best,
U2bC
