I've changed quite a few cars over. I suspect your indy doesn't understand what's going on. The hard carbon he found clogging the intake strainer was from the dino oil coking, and must have been congealed in sludge that was disolved by the synthetic; however The synthetic can not dissolve the hard carbon. In order to be in this kind of situation, an engine has to be pretty damn filthy before the switch. Going back to dino doesn't help; if anything it makes the situation worse.
When switching for the first time, I always do a flush, and then change the synth on a short interval the first time, and somewhat short interval (like what you'd do with dino) the next time - then on to 6K+ is fine depending on your choice of oil. The idea is to flush any of that crap out with the oil, rather than letting it sit in your sump. Only in extreme cases (such as B235 with bad PCV) are you going to run into a situation like he showed you where you need to drop the pan and clean the screen.
