The problem is that if the compressor has seized up it may have spread debris throughout the system, which means you need to flush or replace just about all the other components. Look for signs of contamination when you take the system apart, if you see debris it'll need to be cleaned up. There are flushing kits available that work with compressed air.
Parallel-flow condensers cannot be flushed out since any flushing compound will simply flow around any obstruction via the parallel tubes. However your '87 would have originally been an R12 system and probably has a serpentine condenser, which can be flushed. I'm not sure about the evaporator. Drier and expansion valve would definitely need replacement. (The drier is a particularly nasty job if yours is in the same place as on the later models.)
I hate working on AC but it costs big $$$ to have any serious work done on it by a shop. I need to tackle my inoperative system next spring and am not looking forward to it...
